Hochul Calls In National Guard To Help With NY Migrant Crisis

  • Democratic New York Governor Kathy Hochul revealed on Monday that she is mobilizing the National Guard to provide support amid the ongoing migrant crisis.
  • Governor Hochul has called for the deployment of an additional 150 National Guard members to address the migrant situation. These troops will assist with case management efforts aimed at securing work permits for asylum seekers, with a particular focus on individuals from Venezuela who now qualify for temporary protected status.
  • With the addition of these 150 members, the total number of National Guardsmen involved in the mission will reach 2,200. Among them, 250 National Guard personnel will be dedicated exclusively to case management tasks, facilitating the application process for Temporary Protected Status and subsequent work authorization for Venezuelans who arrived before July 31.
