House Oversight Committee Launches Probe Into FEMA Over Illegal Immigrants

Migrants form lines outside the border fence waiting for transportation to a U.S. Border Patrol facility in El Paso, Texas, Wednesday, May 10, 2023. President Joe Biden’s administration on Thursday will begin denying asylum to migrants who show up at the U.S.-Mexico border without first applying online or seeking protection in a country they passed through, according to a new rule released Wednesday, as U.S. officials warned of difficult days ahead as a key limit on immigration is set to expire. Republican members of the House Oversight Committee have launched an inquiry into the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) following allegations that the agency used taxpayer funds to support non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involved in aiding illegal immigration.

Fox News Digital exclusively obtained a letter led by Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Reps. Glenn Grothman (R-WI) and Jake LaTurner (R-KS) addressed to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell.

Highlighting their oversight responsibility, the Republican lawmakers stated their intention to investigate FEMA’s Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) in light of a recent inspector general’s report.
