- The law was renewed in 2019 by Durbin with help from GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham.
- Prominent Republicans who have supported the bill but it has been staunchly opposed by others such as Sen. Tom Cotton who believe the legislation would take jobs away from U.S. born citizens and those immigrants who entered the country legally.
