ICE Launches Operation ‘Midway Blitz’ To Target Illegals In Illinois

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the launch of Operation Midway Blitz, a new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) initiative aimed at apprehending criminal illegal aliens in Illinois. The operation is named in honor of Katie Abraham, who was killed in a hit-and-run incident involving an undocumented immigrant with a criminal record.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that the operation will focus on “the worst of the worst” offenders who have taken advantage of Illinois’ sanctuary policies. According to DHS, these policies, championed by Governor J.B. Pritzker, have enabled the release of individuals with serious criminal histories, including gang members, drug traffickers, and violent offenders, back onto the streets of Chicago.

“President Trump and Secretary Noem have a clear message: no city is a safe haven for criminal illegal aliens,” McLaughlin said. “If you come to our country illegally and break our laws, we will hunt you down, arrest you, deport you, and you will never return.”

The press release lists over a dozen individuals with extensive criminal records who were allegedly released despite ICE detainers. These include members of the Tren de Aragua and Two Six gangs, as well as individuals convicted of assault, weapons charges, sexual violence, and even murder.

ICE officials argue that local non-cooperation with federal immigration enforcement has turned Chicago into a magnet for criminal activity. The agency claims that repeated failures by Cook County Jail and other institutions to honor ICE detainers have allowed dangerous individuals to remain at large.

The operation marks a renewed push by the Trump administration to crack down on sanctuary jurisdictions and reinforce federal immigration authority. DHS emphasized that Operation Midway Blitz is not a broad immigration sweep, but a targeted effort to remove individuals deemed threats to public safety.
