Florida Ending Search For Ian Victims, Slow Recovery Begins

Ian striking Florida last month was a race instance of direct hit by a major hurricane in the U.S.

  • Ian was a Category 4 hurricane.
  • With the major search for victims over, residents in much of Florida’s southwest coast are settling in for a long, slow recover.
  • Officials say over 100 people died as a result of Ian, which packed 155 mph winds.
  • Ian is the third-deadliest storm to have hit the U.S. mainland this century – behind Hurricane Katrina that left about 1,400 people dead and Hurricane Sandy, which killed 233 despite having weakening to a tropical storm before landfall.
