Kemp Declares State Of Emergency In Georgia After Atlanta Police Shooting

  • Georgia GOP Gov. Brian Kemp has declared state of emergency after violent protests broke out in Atlanta over the weekend after a police-involved shooting.
  • The state of emergency is last through Feb. 9.
  • Kemp has activated roughly 1,000 members of the Georgia National Guard to try to help restore order, citing “unlawful assemblage, violence, overt threats of violence, disruption of the peace and tranquility of this state and danger to existing persons or property.”
