The world has lost another true hero, and we will miss him dearly,” Cunningham’s family said in a statement.
- Cunningham, born on March 16, 1932, in Creston, Iowa, enlisted in the Navy in 1951, where he served on active duty with the Marines.
- In Korea, he completed 54-night missions as a fighter pilot.
