‘Laverne & Shirley’ Actress Cindy Williams Dies at 75

Williams played Shirley to Penny Marshall's Lavern in the popular, late-70s-to-early-80s sitcom.

  • Williams’ family announced the actor’s death Monday, saying she died in Los Angeles after a brief illness.
  • “The passing of our kind, hilarious mother, Cindy Williams, has brought us insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed,” said her two children, Zak and Emily Hudson.“Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege. She was one of a kind, beautiful, generous and possessed a brilliant sense of humor and a glittering spirit that everyone loved.”
  • Williams also starred in the 1973, George Lucas-directed film“American Graffiti”
  • Laverne & Shirley” was a popular spinoff of “Happy Days” that was on ABC from 1976 to 1983
