- The Louisiana Senate on Monday approved a ban on some gender-related treatments for minors after a Republican-led committee rejected it in May.
-
Under the legislation, the state would prohibit doctors and healthcare providers from performing a host of treatments on those under the age of 18. Violators would lose their professional licenses.
- The upper chamber approved the plan in a 29-10 vote, sending it back to the state House, where it is expected to pass.
- “This isn’t complicated. Kids should not have access to permanent medical procedures in order to affirm an identity they might outgrow,” said state Republican Sen. Jeremy Stine.
