- The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg clashed with GOP Rep. Nancy Mace over abortion during Monday’s show.
- Goldberg pressed the South Carolina lawmaker her on why she was being “held to someone else’s religious beliefs,” apparently trying to make the case religious conservative helped strike down Roe v. Wade, then helped get strict limits on the procedure in states across the country.
- “There’s no law on the books that says you have to have an abortion. Isn’t that my choice if my doctor and I feel that’s the best way for me – because if I’m a nice Jewish girl or if I’m a girl who has a different religious belief, why am I being held to someone else’s religious beliefs?” Goldberg said.
- Mace, who does not politically support strict abortion bans, said that “at some point” the baby deserves the “right to life.”
- “But that’s your belief,” Goldberg responded.
