Meta Threatens To Remove News From Facebook Over ‘Cartel-Like’ Proposed Journalism Legislation

- Meta is threatening to remove news from Zuckerberg-founded Facebook over a bill set to hit Capitol Hill in the coming weeks.
- The Journalism Competition and Preservation Act could possibly be attached to the National Defense Authorization Act, and enable a four-year exemption from antitrust laws for the struggling journalism industry.
- The potential legislation would allow journalism outlets to “collectively negotiate with online content distributors.” In a statement, Meta has called it “ill-considered” and says it would create “a cartel-like entity which requires one private company to subsidize other private entities.
