Photos that have surfaced online depict a scene of hundreds of migrants camped out on the streets of El Paso on Monday night, as the city’s emergency order came into effect ahead of the end of Title 42.

The asylum seekers are seen in the images on makeshift beds constructed out of cardboard and sheets, clutching onto their belongings as border towns prepare for a potential surge of migrants once Title 42 is lifted on May 11th.

The photos show throngs of migrants packed tightly on El Paso streets and sidewalks until the early hours of the morning, with some lying across blankets trying to catch some rest, while others sat on the curb, ahead of the border policy’s expiration.
