Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs, a Republican from Utah, has announced his candidacy for the state’s 2024 Senate election.

Staggs will be challenging the incumbent Republican Sen. Mitt Romney if he decides to seek re-election, marking his first official challenger.

“I love my children, and I’m worried about the country they will inherit if I sit on the sidelines. For too long, we’ve allowed government bureaucrats to spend away the next generation’s future, and we need more voices willing to push back,” Staggs said in a statement.
