Moderna Splits With CDC

CEO Says Healthy People Under 50 Don't Need Boosters

  • Despite what the CDC says, young, healthy people don’t necessarily need to get COVID booster shots.
  • That admission comes from a surprising source: Stéphane Bancel, CEO of Moderna, even though his company stands to benefit from peddling as much of its mRNA vaccine as possible.
  • “I think it’s going to be like the flu,” Bancel told investors Monday. “If you’re a 25-year-old, do you need an annual booster every year if you’re healthy? You might want to… but I think it’s going to be similar to flu, where it’s going to be people at high-risk, people above 50 years of age, people with comorbidities, people with cancer and other conditions, people with transplants.”
