More Firings at Beleaguered Office Of Architect Of The Capitol

Capitol Hill
  • The office was already under heavy scrutiny over its preparation and response to the Jan.6, 2020, Capitol riot when President Biden in February dismissed leader J. Brett Blanton over alleged ethics violations.
  • Several more members of the AOC leadership team were fired Thursday, according to an internal email obtained by CQ Roll Call.
  • Reportedly dismissed last week were  the AOC’s general counsel, chief financial officer, chief administrative officer, CEO for visitor services and chief of staff
  • The email referred only to “several” members of the leadership team.  A source familiar with the matter confirmed the authenticity of the email but not the number of positions involved.
  • “The last several years have been challenging for the AOC community,” acting Architect of the Capitol Chere Rexroat wrote in the email Friday to staffers. “You served on the frontlines of a once in a generation pandemic, the events of January 6th, and saw the leader of our agency removed by the President of the United States … . As of April 6, 2023, several members of the C-Suite Leadership team are no longer with the agency.”
  • Her email also referred to AOC accountability to Congress.
