Music Producer Learns Of Grammy Award While Delivering Packages For Amazon

Doechii made history Sunday when she became the third woman to ever win Best Rap Album at the 67th annual Grammy Awards. But that win was likely historic for another reason, too: It was probably the first time an Amazon delivery driver has scored a Grammy while dropping off packages.

The 26-year-old rapper won the award for her mixtape “Alligator Bites Don’t Heal,” joining Cardi B and Lauryn Hill as the only women to win in the category. And while she gave her tearful acceptance speech, one of her many collaborators was on the road.

Joey Hamhock is the alias of 27-year-old producer Spencer Golanka, who co-produced two of the album’s most popular tracks, “Boiled Peanuts” and “Denial Is a River.” Golanka told SFGATE that he was in an Amazon van when he heard the news about Doechii’s win. “I spent maybe an hour and a half yesterday going through like 150 texts and DMs,” he said.

Doechii performed “Denial Is a River,” a hookless, fictionalized back-and-forth between the rapper and a therapist, at the awards ceremony Sunday; at the time of writing, it has more than 77 million streams on Spotify.
