Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly spoke with President Donald Trump on Monday after Netanyahu appeared in court for the first time since asking the country’s president for a pardon in his long-running corruption trial.
Trump has supported Netanyahu’s pardon request.
HaMoked, an Israeli nongovernmental organization, posted on X that Netanyahu “is currently speaking with the President of the United States” around midday Eastern time.
Mordechai Wagenheim, an i24NEWS reporter, posted on X that Netanyahu said the conversation revolved around Gaza, demilitarizing Hamas and expanding peace agreements.
The prime minister added that Trump invited him back to the White House in the near future.
Opposition politicians have come out against the prime minister’s pardon request, with some arguing that any pardon should be conditional on Netanyahu retiring from politics and admitting guilt.
