Netherlands Orders Russia Diplomats To Leave, Over Alleged Spy Planting

The Dutch government on Saturday ordered several Russian diplomats expelled over Russia’s alleged “continued attempts to place intelligence officers into the Netherlands under diplomatic cover.”

  • The Dutch government also plans to close its consulate general in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Monday and the Russian Trade Office, in Amsterdam, on Tuesday.
  • The Netherlands expelled 17 Russian diplomats in March 2022 over espionage concerns following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a month earlier, according to Politico.
  • Russia later expelled 15 Dutch diplomats.
