• After the high profile flopping of Disney’s pro-LGBTQ+ Lightyear and Strange World, Disney has still not learned, and has injected an LGBTQ+ storyline in its upcoming DisneyPlus reimagining of 80’s kid flick Willow, centering it on two young lesbians falling in love.
• “I believe we’re at a moment where you’re going to see a paradigm shift in that. And hopefully, the way that it’s gonna happen is that these kinds of [queer] stories, particularly like this one, that were just organic to the narrative we were telling, find their way in, and it becomes less of a surprising and unusual thing to see,” writer Jonathan Kasdan told Polygon.
• Lightyear underperformed earlier this year at the box office, and Strange World – which featured a gay teen lead – stands to lose over $150 million dollars for Disney.
