NEW: Whitmer Shuttering Black Adoption Agency On Friday

  • Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer this year used her line-item veto power to eliminate $25.5 million earmarked for pregnancy resources and adoption alternatives such as those offered in Detroit by “Homes for Black Children,” an organization founded in 1969.
  • Now, citing “financial instability” at HBC, the state Department of Health and Human Services Child Welfare Division plans to revoke HBC’s license on Friday.
  • Jacquelynn Moffett, president and CEO of HBC, told Michigan News Source that even though they had a net profit of $70,000 in 2021, the state is still planning to shut them down.
