Newsom, IRS Give Californians Until October To File Returns

For most Californians who owe taxes federal or state income tax for last year, the deadline for filing their return and paying what they owe has been extended to October.

  • The relief is available to anyone living or working in the 44 counties covered by the FEMA emergency declaration, which includes Los Angeles, Ventura and San Diego counties.
  • TheEmergency Management Agency’s made the declaration in response to the severe winter storms that caused floods, landslides and mudslides from Dec. 27 to Jan. 31.
  • The State and federal governments has already extended the deadline to May 15. Then last week, the IRS pushed it back to Oct. 16, which was followed by Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsoms saying Thursday the state would do the same.
