NSA Launches Election Security Group To Prevent Midterm Cyber Attacks

National Security Agency, Cyber Command have activated their Election Security Group to stop foreign actors from launching cyber attacks, interfering in midterms

  • Group will be particularly focused threats from China, Iran and Russia.
  • Game plan reportedly includes intelligence gathering to identify potential attackers and their intent, then expose them, making their costs skyrocket.
  • “Thousands of people are going to work every day to defend the elections from foreign threats … to sharing information to … disrupting foreign adversary activity,” a group spokeswoman said.
  • Group traces roots to small team formed to fight Russian hackers ahead of the 2018 election.
