During a press conference on Wednesday, Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York announced plans to utilize college campuses within the state’s university system as emergency shelters for undocumented immigrants in New York City.

Hochul stated that they are exploring all available state resources to address the crisis-level problem in New York City. The State University of New York (SUNY) campuses are among the options being considered for this purpose.

She emphasized the urgency of the situation and expressed intentions to soon present a proposal to Mayor Eric Adams, specifying which campuses could be used as shelters.
