NYC Lifts Vaccine Mandate For Private Sector But Not For Public Workers

New York City on Tuesday lifted its COVID-19 vaccine mandate for private-sector workers, effective Nov. 1.

  • Mayor Eric Adams said the city also will end its COVID-19 vaccine mandate for student athletes, effective immediately.
  • New York City’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for public workers will remain in effect.
  • The Police Benevolent Association, a police union, argues Adams’ decision to rollback private-sector vaccine mandate yet keep public-sector one  bolsters his members’ legal challenges.
  • “Now that the city has abandoned any pretense of a public health justification for vaccine mandates, we expect it to settle our pending lawsuits and reinstate with back pay our members who unjustly lost their jobs,” an association leader said.
