NYU Langone Health has been slapped with a federal grand jury subpoena from the Justice Department, which is attempting to collect information about the extent of the hospital network’s involvement in providing transgender surgeries for minor patients since 2020.
The hospital system — one of the largest in New York City — disclosed the subpoena on Monday, Reuters reported, which came from the US Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Texas.
The subpoena is seeking “information pertaining to patients under the age of 18 who received gender-affirming care” between 2020 and 2026, along with the names of NYU Langone staff members who performed the treatments.
“We understand that these developments may be concerning to our patients, providers, and others,” it said in a statement to the outlet. “Please know that NYU Langone takes the privacy of your protected health information very seriously and we are evaluating our response to the subpoena.”
A NYU Langone spokesperson declined to comment on the subpoena when reached by The Post via email Wednesday.
