Pandemic Go-To DoorDash Cuts 1,250 Jobs

The announcement that roughly 1,250 employees would lose their job was made Wednesday by Chief Executive Officer Tony Xu in a letter workers.

  • “This is the most difficult change to DoorDash that I’ve had to announce in our almost 10-year history,” Xu wrote. “I am truly sorry.”
  • The cuts will be in corporate offices worldwide and equal about 6% of DoorDash’s global workforce.
  • The company did well during the pandemic, but the rapid, related expansions, including more hires, led to mounting losses.
  • Xu said DoorDash “continues to grow fast.”
