- The department reportedly changed its position after a Senate minority report from October 2022 detailed “substantial evidence” in support of the leak theory.
- The FBI’s position also is that the virus was accidentally leaked from the lab, but the U.S. intelligence community remains divided, with some saying it likely naturally jumped from animals to human, perhaps at a wet market in the city of Wuhan, as China officials initially said.
