Post-9/11 First Responder Deaths Now Nearly Match Attack Casualties

  • The total number of 9/11 first responders succumbing to health complications linked to Ground Zero exposure now approaches parity with the number of first responders who perished during the initial attacks.
  • In a significant development, the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) recently unveiled the inclusion of 43 additional names of first responders who lost their lives due to ailments stemming from the events of 9/11. These names have been added to the FDNY memorial located at the World Trade Center.
  • Among those commemorated are firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs. Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh, in a press release, paid tribute to these courageous individuals, stating, “These brave men and women answered the call on that fateful day and in the ensuing days and months, actively participating in the rescue and recovery operations at the World Trade Center site. Their indomitable spirit will forever be etched in our memory.”
