Thousands Locked Out Of Thermostats Due To ‘Energy Emergency’

Power company exec said those locked out of thermostat were in "voluntary program" and this is first time in company history they'd been unable to override system.

  • Customers are in Pueblo, Colorado, and have Xcel Energy as their electricity supplier.
  • “Let’s remember that this is something that customers choose to be a part of based on the incentives,” said an Xcel executive.
  • However, company confirmed 22,000 customers were locked out of their smart thermostats for several hours Tuesday as temperatures climbed into the 90s.
