Rand Paul To Block Any Funding Bill Supporting Ukraine War Funding

- Conservative Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) has declared his intention to obstruct any funding bill aimed at extending government operations beyond September 30th, should it include financial support for the conflict in Ukraine.
- Paul made his announcement on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “Today I’m putting congressional leadership & @POTUS on notice that I will oppose any effort to hold the federal government hostage for Ukraine funding. I will not consent to expedited passage of any spending measure that provides any more U.S. aid to Ukraine.”
- This stance means that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) would need to navigate the protracted process of invoking cloture and scheduling a vote to end debate on the bill, which would require several days, if he wishes to include Ukraine funding in a stopgap measure for funding various federal departments and agencies.
