Department of Homeland Security cites ‘lingering impacts’ of Covid-19 pandemic

  • The full enforcement of Real ID security standards has been delayed by Homeland Security until May 2025.
  • The Real ID Act was initially supposed to go into effect in 2008 but has been continuously delayed since then.
  • Most recently, the rule had been slated to go into effect in May 2023.
