Record Border Numbers — More Than 2M Encounters With Illegals
CBP: Over 2M In Fiscal Year, U.S. record

- Customs and Border Patrol released the much-anticipated numbers Monday.
- Agency says the 2 million-plus encounters in single fiscal year was a first in U.S. history.
- Southwest land border encounters increased to 203,598 in August, from 200,195 the prior month.
- Of those encountered in August, 22% “had at least one prior encounter in the previous 12 months,” agency said.
- Total number of encounters so far in the current fiscal year, which ends on September 30, is now 2,150,639, according to CBP.
- For comparison, last fiscal year’s total of Southwest land encounters was 1,734,686. In 2020, the last full fiscal year of former President Trump’s tenure in office, the total number of border encounters was 458,088.
