Communist China remains top issue for House Republican agenda

  • Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ) was tapped by Speaker Kevin McCarthy to chair the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, a House-Senate bipartisan commission.
  • Smith has pledged to highlight forced labor, religious crackdowns, and other human rights abuses as part of his role on the commission.
  • The commission’s work will complement the work done by the new Select Committee on China, chaired by Representative Mike Gallagher (R-WI).
