Rhode Island Council Member Found Passed Out In Car Before Drug Arrest

A Rhode Island city councilman affiliated with the Republican party is under pressure to step down following an incident in which police discovered him on Monday, passed out and appearing to be “choking” in his car while holding a crack pipe.

Matthew R. Reilly, a member of the Cranston City Council, was found asleep inside the vehicle shortly before noon, as confirmed by a police statement and body camera footage documenting the event.

In the recorded video, an officer wakes up Reilly, who is 41 years old, and informs him, “You were literally choking in your sleep. Someone was flagging me down about it.”
