According to the New York Times, San Francisco is facing the potential of reparation payments to eligible black residents that could exceed $100 billion.

The city’s African American Reparations Advisory Committee put forth this recommendation in January, asserting that San Francisco has an obligation to compensate black residents for enduring decades of discrimination.

The proposed reparation payments, amounting to $5 million per individual, carry an estimated cost that surpasses San Francisco’s annual budget of $14 billion by a massive margin. However, the city’s mayor, London Breed, has yet to commit to implementing cash reparations, according to the report.
