School Board Receives Backlash At Meeting Over LGBTQ+ Safe Space Grant Rejection

  • Emotions ran high at Tuesday night’s Lynchburg City School board meeting, after the board’s November 15th decision to turn down a $10,000 grant from the ‘It Gets Better Project.’
  • The grant was submitted by the Gender Sexuality Alliance club at E.C. Glass High School, with plans to create a safe room for every student in the school. They were awarded the grant back in August, but any grant over $5,000 must be approved by the LCS School Board.
  • The board room was packed full of people and passion. Students, teachers, and community members held up signs and addressed the board, asking them to reconsider the decision.
