- A fentanyl vaccine has been created by enterprising researchers at the University of Houston in the form of a three-dose shot that provides the user’s blood with antibodies that eliminate fentanyl from the blood.
- The vaccine would prevent the effects of fentanyl from reaching the brain, thus completely eliminating the high that comes from using the drug.
- The researchers are hoping to begin phase 1 trials on humans in 2023, and stress that the drug only works for fentanyl, not other opioids.
