SCOTUS Hears Two Cases Challenging Biden Student Loan Forgiveness

The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear two legal challenges to the Biden administration’s student loan forgiveness plan.

  • One of the cases is being brought by GOP-led states and argues Democrat President Joe Biden has overstepping his executive branch authority by ordering the forgiveness program.
  • The second legal challenge is backed by the conservative advocacy group Job Creators Network Foundation, which also Biden has gone beyoun his authority with the executive order.
  • A lower court in November 2022 effectively halted the Biden administrations from carrying out its plan to cancel $20,000 in student debt for tens of millions of Americans until the case reached the Supreme Court.
  • Oral arguments begin Tuesday.
