- At least six motorists in southern Illinois were killed when a windstorm kicked up blinding dust off farm fields, causing numerous crashes.
- The late-morning crashes occurred on Interstate 55 and involved 40 to 60 cars and multiple tractor-trailers, police said.
- Two of the tractor-trailers caught fire.
- “The cause of the crashes is due to excessive winds blowing dirt from farm fields across the highway, leading to zero visibility,” said Illinois State Police Maj. Ryan Starrick
