After police initially said the suspect appeared to have acted alone, sources on Sunday told two news outlet the suspect might have ties to islamic extremism.
Investigators are looking into whether the suspect in the stabbing of two New York City police officers was a radical due to his recent activity online, police sources told the New York Post.
In addition, a high-level police source told Fox News Digital the suspect was being watched by the FBI’s counterterrorism task force in the weeks ahead of the Saturday’s attack at a checkpoint near Times Square on Saturday night.
The suspect has now been identified as 19-year-old Trevor Bickford, of Maine.
