The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) paved the way for the purchase of 18 radio stations from Televisa Univision by Latino Media Network, backed by progressive billionaire George Soros. Among them is the well-known Radio Mambí in Miami.
For months, Republican leaders and journalists have been warning about what a liberal company’s purchase of the stations would represent. In June, El American had access to a letter that six Republican congress members sent to FCC Chairman Jessica Rosenworcel urging the federal agency to “closely scrutinize” the purchase of 18 Hispanic radio stations – including Radio Mambí – by Latino Media Network.
