- Special counsel Jack Smith is calling on the federal judge overseeing former President Donald Trump‘s 2020 election subversion case to urgently install a gag order, flagging several social media incidents he believes warrant restrictions on the former president.
- Smith said in a court filing on Friday to U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan that Trump should not be permitted to “obtain the benefits of his incendiary public states” and then “avoid accountability” through “feign[ed] retraction.”
- He was referring to Trump’s appearance at a gun store in South Carolina on Monday, during which he was videotaped holding a custom Glock.
