Texas Company Testing Drones In Classrooms To Combat School Shootings

A Texas-based company is working to implement drones inside classrooms to prevent school shootings by partnering with law enforcement to confront active threats.

“We want to be known as the first active threat suppression system,” Khristof Oborski, director of tactical operations, said.

Campus Guardian Angel uses drone technology to conduct a 3-D scan of the location and embed cameras, providing situational awareness. Users receive an app that offers geo-location data when a threat is detected, helping to manage the situation effectively.

“Our goal is to chew up that time it takes from a shooting to an officer responding. So, depending on the size of the school, an officer can be on the other side of the campus when the shooting happens, and our data suggest the killing happens in the first two minutes,” Oborski said.

Once a threat is identified, the company communicates with law enforcement and deploys drones inside the schools. These drones are equipped with two-way radios to interact with the shooter and, if necessary, use gel-based pepper spray to deter them.
