‘The FBI Subsidiary’: Twitter Routinely Did The Bureau’s Bidding

- Journalist Matt Taibbi, a Substack writer, said in the latest installment of “The Twitter Files” that Twitter effectively had become a subsidiary of the FBI.
- Taibbi writes: “Between January 2020 and November 2022, there were over 150 emails between the FBI and former Twitter Trust and Safety chief Yoel Roth… a surprisingly high number are requests by the FBI for Twitter to take action on election misinformation, even involving joke tweets from low-follower accounts.”
- Taibbi described the “master-canine quality of the FBI’s relationship to Twitter,” with the bureau routinely asking for action to be taken, even against accounts that had small followings and little engagement.
- In some cases, the FBI told Twitter it wanted action taken against accounts clearly engaged in satire.
