The Word ‘Field’ Is Now Racist At This College

  • The University of Southern California’s School of Social Work sent a letter declaring it would no longer use the word “field” when referring to one’s area of expertise. Instead, it is replacing it with the word “practicum.”
  • Why would such a reputable school make such a silly, nonsensical change? Because of slavery, of course. The change was motivated by an adherence to the radical orthodoxy of “anti-racist” methodology.
  • “Specifically, we have decided to remove the term ‘field’ from our curriculum and practice and replace it with ‘practicum,'” the letter read. “This change supports anti-racist social work practice by replacing language that could be considered anti-Black or anti-immigrant in favor of inclusive language.”
