TikTok Sues Montana Over Ban

  • Lawyers for the short-form video app say the state’s download ban is a violation of the First Amendment.
  • TikTok filed the lawsuit Monday
  • “We are challenging Montana’s unconstitutional TikTok ban to protect our business and the hundreds of thousands of TikTok users in Montana,” a company spokesperson said. “We believe our legal challenge will prevail based on an exceedingly strong set of precedents and facts.”
  • GOP Gov. Greg Gianforte last week signed into law a bill restricting downloads of the app. making Montana the first state to effectively ban the app, amid concerns about its China-based owner sharing data with the Chinese Communist Party.
