Burglars broke into the Pacific Palisades property of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Los Angeles police sources told The Times.
The couple was not home when the burglary occurred last month, and it is unclear whether anything was taken.
The break-in occurred in a guest house next to the couple’s main home, the sources said. Officials think the property was likely chosen at random and not specifically targeted.
It’s not clear whether anything was taken, the Los Angeles Times said. Officials said it doesn’t appear that the burglars were necessarily targeting the Concord-born, Oakland-reared “Forrest Gump” actor and his wife and may have chosen the property at random.
Ever since the “Bling Ring,” celebrities have lived with the nagging possibility that even high-priced security can’t necessarily keep their homes safe from criminals.
The “Bling Ring” involved a California-based crime gang, consisting of seven teenagers and adults, who broke into and stole from high-profile celebrity homes in 2008 and 2009. Their victims included Paris Hilton and Orlando Bloom.
