Trans Activist Group Sues S Dakota Gov Noem For Discrimination

  • The Transformation Project, a transgender activist group, is suing South Dakota GOP Gov. Kristi Noem for discrimination in connection with her terminated a contract with the group last year.
  • Noem announced the retirement of South Dakota Health Secretary Joan Adam in December 2022 after a report that the state Department of Health had signed a $136,000 contract with The Transformation Project.
  • The governor did not mention the contact with the group when announcing Adam’s retirement, but she issued a statement saying, “South Dakota does not support this organization’s efforts,” and terminated the state’s contact with it.
  • The group filed the lawsuit Friday, according to the Associated Press. Group Director Susan Williams said the contract termination was “uncalled for and was, in fact, discrimination.”
