- The Chinese Communist Party has not yet given Russia direct, lethal aid for its war against Ukraine, but has not taken the option off the table, according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
- The remarks follow Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s assertion that the CCP was considering sending lethal aid to the Kremlin, resulting in heightened tensions between the U.S., China, and Russia.
- “We have seen them provide non-lethal support to Russia for use in Ukraine. The concern that we have now is based on information we have that they’re considering providing lethal support, and we’ve made very clear to them that that would cause a serious problem for us and in our relationship,” Blinken said in a February 19 interview.
- The Biden administration is reportedly weighing whether to declassify and release intelligence about the issue.
