U.S. Launches Nuclear-Capable Test Missile Into Pacific Ocean

  • An unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from a California base into the Pacific Ocean to display the “readiness” of the United States’ nuclear capabilities, the U.S. Air Force said.
  • The military described the launch as a routine test but comes amidst increasing U.S.-China tensions after the U.S. military shot down a Chinese surveillance balloon that transited across the country.
  • North Korea also displayed its own nuclear attack capabilities this week by showcasing around one dozen intercontinental ballistic missiles in downtown Pyongyang.
